Geographically Skagen is one of the very best spots in Northern Europe for migrating birds! The migration of both raptors, passerines and seabirds can be fantastic! Many different species visits every year and around 370 species have been recorded in Skagen. The area is also renowned for offering more rarities than anywhere else in Denmark.

As a field assistant we offer you a free stay in a new and modern Observatory in one of Denmarks`s most iconic buildings: The lighthouse living quarters by the Grey Lighthouse - with the birds right outside your doorstep. You will get an allowance between 75-150 DKK pr. day (pending of experince) and get to work with many other committed people at the Observatory. The Observatory values professionalism and solidarity greatly, which gives you the possibility to develop your knowledge, skills and responsibility, but also to have life experiences together with the rest of the staff. It is a place of space and high spirits.

We prioritize applicants who can stay for three months or more (in March – November) and applicants with valid ringing license or with a good track record regarding observations of visible migration or bird surveys.  Applicants with teaching and presentation skills are also valuable. But from time to time we also take in newcomers for training with less experince. Shorter periods down to one month is in some periods also possible. The daily work is very versatile with many different jobs, which – besides ringing and observations – include presentation, instruction, processing data, practical work, etc.
