Robins, Robins, Robins!

mandag 28. september 2020
af Amelie Zeller

When Oluf arrived this morning for the first ringing round at 7:15, he was very excited because he had just seen a Dotterel (Pomeransfugl) around the Lighthouse! Apparently, it flew off to the Lighthouse Garden. Then, Christina, Oluf and I had a very busy morning with tons of birds in the first round. Before the second round we called Martin for help, because we were already late and had to leave out measurements. Martin was there for support in less than 10 minutes and could stay for the second and third round, which was a big relief for us. We closed the nets at 12 and had over 120 birds today, including recaptures!

Not to compare with the 2000+ birds they caught in Ottenby today! Although it was mostly Robins (Rødhals), they caught four Yellow-browed Warblers (Hvidbrynet Løvsanger). Simon will stay two more days there to support them and will be back with us in Skagen on Wednesday.

Today we caught a lot of Goldcrests (Fuglekonge) and Robins (Rødhals), which made out almost half of the birds ringed today.

At this time of the year we must be careful, because there can also be Olive-backed Pipits (Tajgapiber).

We also made a little ringing tour for a family that is on vacation here in Skagen. They were very interested in the species and in the aging of the birds. Later in the morning Kristina came by with her dog Aslan. She’s happy to be in Skagen again, as she had to stay home for the last weeks because of a cold.
