First summery day, Lille Skrigeørn

Hi folks :)

I hope you had an incredible weekend!

Our morning started with Rasmus and Mikkel opening nets at Kabeltromlen, and Jonas and I went observing.

Not many birds migrating the first hours, but we had the chance to observe an incredible sunrise, accompanied by two young Roe Deers (Rådyr) on the beach right in front of us. Throughout the morning, our highlights were a Short-eared Owl (Mosehornugle), two Arctic Skuas light morph (Almindelig Kjove), a Common Rosefinch (Karmindompap), a Black Kite (Sort Glente), about 250 Common Buzzards (Musvåge).

In the ringing, the first two rounds were slow but then it picked up with about 10 birds a round. Rasmus got to ring his first Red-backed Shrike (Rødrygget Tornskade), an adult male; Mikkel ringed his first Eurasian Jay (Skoveskade)! They also had the chance to see a green Golden Oriole (Pirol).

Our guests, Søren and Karen Marie, visited both places before saying goodbye and heading back to Copenhagen. We've had the best week with you, and know that you will be greatly missed! Hope to see you again very soon on my way to Sweden! :)

On our way back, a Golden Eagle (Kongeørn) was called out, heading our way from Flagbakken. We all got to see it soaring right across the road from the lighthouse! It was an incredible view and we managed to see all the characteristics that this second-year bird was showing.

In the afternoon, Mikkel, Ramsus, and Jonas met with Simon and Lisa at Nordstrand to record a live video with kids for Naturmødet 2021. Rasmus was responsible for replying to the chat and then went to Skarvsøen to follow our Cormorant (Skarv) nests.

I welcomed our new guest, Charlotte, who drove all the way from north of Copenhagen today, and I then went to the beach to enjoy a bit of sun. Mikkel and Jonas met me there and went for a swim while I was catching up with my sister on the phone. A Lesser Spotted Eagle (Lille Skrigeørn) got called out on Zello, and the boys left, kindly driven by Charlotte, picked up Rasmus in Saftevandsbakken, and headed to Hulsig Hede. They all got to see it really well!!
