Of Wagtails and Divers

tirsdag 26. april 2022
af Alice Scalzo

This morning Robbe and Manuel went to open the nets together. They had quite a hard time as a few nets broke at the loop. Hanelie joined them for the first round. The first rounds were very slow, but it got better after some time. They got the first Siskins (Grønsisken) and Lesser Whitethroat (Gærdesanger).

Meanwhile a Citrine Wagtail (Citronvipstjert) was spotted in the reeds near worlds end 3 ! It was quite hard to see as it was walking in the reeds, but we all managed to see it quite well ! Robbe also got to see the Yellow-billed diver (Hvidnæbbet Lom), which makes two new species for him, and one for me and Hanelie ! We will have to celebrate in the next days !

There was also two Wrynecks (Vendehals) spotted in the vicinity, but none of us managed to see them, although while looking Hanelie had a great observation of Red kites (Rød Glente) flying very low. After the Wagtail I went to the nets to fix and tense some of them, and started preparing a new net with Hanelie's help.

In the afternoon we all split up in different tasks. Hanelie had her raptor summary to finish, she was helped by Manuel and Marion, and a language test. Manuel went for groceries, Robbe took care of the picture archive, and I went back to the nets to finish installing the new net, cut some branches, and fix other nets.

Today Hans went out early to try to see some birds, but the fog was to thick so he went back out outside later. He saw the Citrine Wagtail (Citronvipstjert) from very close and the Wrynecks (Vendehals), and lots of raptors. He also went to Skagen to Galleri Molevit where Axel Thorenfeldt's paintings are exhibited ! You should take a look if you didn't already !

Simon also got to see the two highlights of the day when he was at the ringing this morning. But he spent most of the day making podcasts about raptors. He also looked into the planning of the next guided tours.

The radar is also being installed, we hope tomorrow it will be ready and we will start shooting raptorswith the laser binoculars with Thomas and Rasmus help at the radar.

Have a good evening,

Alice.
