A Busy day in the Field

Our day began with Hanelie and me heading out early for a round of ringing at Kabeltromlen again. While walking between the nets, we suddenly heard a Grasshopper Warbler (Græshoppesanger) singing nearby and got really excited! A little later in the day, Emma went out to The Tip of Denmark (Grenen) for some seabird observations and heard it as well.

Ringing was really busy throughout the morning with a total of 50 birds. Among them were a Redwing (Vindrossel) and a Common Chaffinch (Bogfinke), and we were especially happy to catch our first juvenile Reed Buntings (Rørspurv) of the season.

While we were working, Simon stopped by with two other visitors and I got to explain them some of the work that we do. It’s always so great to share this work with curious guests who also want to learn more!
In the afternoon, we visited the local wildlife rescue centre in Jerup, where we had the chance to ring one Collared Dove (Tyrkerdue) and two Wood Pigeons (Ringdue). I was so excited to ring my first pigeon.

To round off the day, we stopped by the beach nearby for a short birdwatching session. We saw some Golden Plovers (Hjejle), a juvenile Crane (Trane) jumping around in the distance, Redshanks (Rødben) and even a young Yellow Wagtail (Gul Vipstjert) exploring the shore.
It was definitely a great day for the whole team!
