It was another rainy morning in Skagen and after some indecision, Amira, Miles and Florian decided to bike to Nordstrand. However, it rained continuously at the beginning and visibility was relatively poor due to the fog. After about an hour, the rain stopped and visibility improved. With the good weather came the birds. Endless streams of Red-throated Divers (Rødstrubet Lom) and Guillemots (Lomvie) kept the observers busy. Other highlights were Black-throated Diver (Sortstrubet Lom) and Long-tailed Duck (Havlit). Today was the last day of the standardized observation and in the end a new autumn record was set with 760 Red-throated Divers (Rødstrubet Lom) and 1297 Guillemots (Lomvie) each!

Meanwhile, Lise, Kat, Vic and I stayed behind. I had some office work to do and had decided to use the morning for it. Lise and her friends waited until the rain had stopped and after visiting the Observers, they explored the area, including the Sunken Church south of Skagen. At the end they went up the lighthouse tower and our guests Kat and Vic then drove back to Aarhus. We hope they had a great time here!

Before the observers finished their count I also biked to Northstrand and counted another 2,5 hours after the official end of the count (numbers not included in the records). Florian went for a walk at the Cormorant Lake, where he also saw a Chiffchaff (Gransanger) and Amira and Miles went back to the lighthouse. There were still more than 200 resting Red-throated Divers (Rødstrubet Lom) on site, which was very impressive. I also had several hundred Guillemots (Lomvie) per hour and a large group of 150 Red-throated Divers (Rødstrubet Lom) was a nice sighting. I was also able to observe a total of three Black-throated Divers (Sortstrubet Lom), a Long-tailed Duck (Havlit) and a large group of Snowbuntings (Snespurv).
After Florian had taken a walk to the nearby Cormorant Lake, he came back to the observation point. Amira had also walked back to Northstrand via Grenen on the beach (after putting on dry clothes) and we counted the last half hour together.

We drove back and after a short break Florian and Amira went nightcatching Woodcocks (Skovsneppe). After many failed attempts of us over the last few weeks, they managed to catch a Woodcock (Skovsneppe) today for the first time since my arrival here in early november. Florian had to go into town to buy food for dinner and Amira brought the bird back to the lighthouse where we ringed it together. It was a very nice adult!

In the evening Florian cooked a tasty dinner.
Standard ringing season has finished for 2025!
