Lighthouse twitch

torsdag 4. december 2025
af János Schadl
Since the morning observation season was over, we could all sleep a bit longer today. I got up at 8:30 and spent the morning doing some minor office tasks. Miles and Lise went for a run despite the bad weather and were able to spot a Great Grey Shrike (Stor Tornskade) and some Whooper Swans (Sangsvane) along the way.

Florian decided to go up the lighthouse, from where you have a good view over the water. Here he saw many Common Scoters (Sortand) and Eiders (Ederfugl). A highlight was a roosting Black-throated Diver (Sortstrubet Lom) and, after a bit of searching, a Slavonian Grebe (Nordisk Lappedykker), which is a scarce species here in Skagen! Lise and Miles had just returned from their run, and so everyone had the chance to see the bird. And that right on the doorstep!

Our guests arrived in the afternoon. To round off the season, we invited some local birders and friends like Knud who was counting with us every day during the morning observation. Together we celebrated the successful fall season.

Simon prepared Gløgg and Æbleskiver, and Jeppe and Mette brought homemade cookies, which are called Brunkager and Pebernødder in Dansk.

Later we played a game called Mikado, and it was fun to see how everyone has their own strategy to carefully remove one stick after another from the messy pile of sticks on the table.

In the evening, Florian topped it with a delicious dinner including both essentials - olives and tofu!
