Good food day!

We had decided to do a harbor trip in the morning, so after a short breakfast, we got the bikes out and headed in the direction of the town. There was still much ice on the roads, so we often needed to get off the bike and almost slipped on several occasions. It stayed dry for most of the time, but the wind was strong and made it quite exhausting to get from one place to another. It felt good to be back in Skagen after my stay last autumn, and fun to see the area covered in snow.

One of our main goals was to see a Great Northern Diver (Islom), which was seen in the harbor yesterday and apparently gave very good views - without success. But with plenty of Eiders and Gulls around, it didn't get boring. Other highlights have been a Red-breasted Merganser ((Toppet Skallesluger), close Guillemots (Lomvie) and when we reached the north end of the harbour, a Purple Sandpiper (Sortgrå Ryle).

We also managed to read a colour-ringed Greater Black-backed Gull (Svartbag) from Norway, which was nice.

After this we wanted to go to a bakery to get a hot drink and something sweet to eat, but with most of them closed (maybe due to the snow?) we just bought a cake and went back to the lighthouse. We got lucky, because right after we arrived, it started raining. The cake was good, and after a while, Simon texted us asking if we wanted to have lunch with him and Lisa in Skagen. They picked us up, and we enjoyed some very tasty sandwiches and a good conversation.

When they brought us back, we shared the second half of the cake and had a look at Eleanor's stone collection. After a discussion about where the best stones and shells can be found in the Skagen area, Simon and Lisa needed to leave again.

Later Eleanor and Thomas made some chocolate cookies and we played some matching cards. After a very delicious dinner by Eleanor, we tried to catch some Woodcocks, but without success. Seeing 11 Woodcocks (Skavsneppe), a Snipe (Double snipe) and Fieldfare (Sjagger) was worth it though and we finished the day with eating the previously made cookies.
