Raptor migration and dolphins
János, Julian and I were at the ringing today. We were expecting a good number of birds for this morning, but it ended up being quite slow. In most of the rounds we only ringed one bird and had a total of nine. However, we still had nice species like a female Pied Flycatcher (Broget Fluesnapper), a Spotted Flycatcher (Grå Fluesnapper) and a Reed Warbler (Rørsanger). János could use the time between rounds to make Black-headed wagtail (Gul Vipsjert, Motacilla flava ssp. feldegg) recordings and to take some blood samples. Moreover, we could see Honey Buzzards (Hvepsevåge) and Common Swift (Mursejler) migration.
In the meantime, Alvin and Dylan were on the migration counting. They saw Great Northern Divers (Islom), a female Black-throated Diver (Sortstrubet lom), three summer plumage Great Plovers (Stor præstekrave) and Montegu’s Harrier (Hedehøg). They also had a surprising observation: a flock of white-beaked dolphins (Hvidnæse) jumping over the water!

Montagu's Harrier (Hedehøg)
Back at the station, Dylan and I had a quick lunch before Simon pick us up and drove us to Pælebakke klit to do some raptor counting. Some species that we could see were Common Buzzard (Musvåge), Honey Buzzard (Hvepsevåge), White-tailed Eagle (Havørn), Red Kite (Rød Glente), Black Kite (Sort Glente), Marsh Harrier (Rørhøg), Kestrel (Tårnfalk) and Osprey (Fiskeørn).

Rikke went birding and watched two harrier and an osprey (Fiskeørn) and heard a Rosefinch (Karmindompap). She searched for Ortland bunting (Hortulan) but wasn´t successful.
We ended the day eating a delicious lasagna that Alvin prepared for dinner.
