Sleepy Ringers and Sweet Treats
The ringers woke up at two am today to bike to Skarvsøen to do the “Constant Effort Site” ringing. The morning there was pretty slow with only a handful of birds. Mostly Reed Warblers (Rørsanger). We were hoping to maybe catch a Water Rail (Vandrikse) since we heard quite a few on the way there, but the closest we got to that dream was Julian, who saw one. We could also observe a male Ruff (Brushane) flying over the lake.
Later in the morning, Simon had a tour for a group of people, they did some birdwatching and even visited the ringing for a while.

The observers this morning could sleep until four am! A real sleep-in for us haha :) They saw a Turtle Dove (Turteldue) and two Shorelarks (Bjerglærke). When we got back, there was a Lesser Spotted Eagle (Lille Skrigeørn) flying over Skagen, and Dylan went to try and see it, but sadly it had already flown south again when he arrived. Lisa saw it from her garden though :)
In the afternoon most of us took naps. Alvin and Julian were in the kitchen as well and made some yummy treats. Julian made a caramel pudding and Alvin made a big banana bread out of the bananas we had left.
