Preparing for the colder Days

tirsdag 13. oktober 2026
af Mio Brix

The day started very calmly, with little wind, but during the morning, the wind picked up. As a result, the ringing team at Kabeltromlen, consisting of Simon, Laura and Luis (and later Jule as well), had to close some nets during the day and eventually close all of them an hour earlier than usual. Nevertheless, they still had a nice day with the usual, but always lovely, birds, such as the colourful Bramblings (Kvækerfinke). Between the rounds, they also found a small Adder (Hugorm) and enjoyed watching the large flock of Jackdaws (Allike) that came in from the sea.

This flock was also spotted by the team at World's End 3 today, consisting of Sarah, Knud and Jule (with me joining later). Here, too, it was a lovely morning, with plenty of Razorbills (Alk) migrating, as well as some Goldeneyes (Hvinand). The highlight was definitely a Nutcracker (Nøddekrige) that flew by very close, right over the dunes.

While Knud, Jule and Sarah were counting the auks (Lomvie og Alk) during the first two hours, I took the opportunity to check some bushes around Stald Grenen, Nedermose and Nordstrand. On my way to Stald Grenen, I spotted a Ring Ouzel (Ringdrossel) flying overhead and later, a Jack Snipe (Enkeltbekkasin) flew over at Nedermose.

All in all, it was a lovely morning, but we all realised that it was quite cold today. So, later in the afternoon, we decided to try out the boiler suits!

Earlier, Jule, Sarah and I ate stick-bread session in the lighthouse garden. It was a lovely first lunch after the count and ringing!

In the afternoon, Jule fixed a bike. It wasn't an easy job, and it took quite a bit of hard work, but hard work always pays off in the end! So, she managed to fix it, and now she can cycle out to KAB or WE3 faster than the wind again!

Now, after a delicious dinner, we're looking forward to a movie evening!

Highlights from the observations:

Nutcracker (Nøddekrige)-1

Lapland Bunting (Lapværling)-2 (later 5 Birds west of Sandormentrack by Erik)

We be added soon...
