Morningobservation at Nordstrand

I will start this article by talking a little bit of yesterday because after dinner we decided to go out and try to catch some cool bird! The species we were looking for was Oystercatcher, so we decided to start near the see around the lighthouse. We weren’t lucky over there and didn’t see anything, so we decided to go more inland to try to catch Woodcock. We walk for around 30 minutes and then we saw probably a Woodcock who flew away far from us. After a while we saw a pipit (not very sure about the species), we went slowly to try to catch it but as it was my first time doing that, I wasn’t fast enough to catch it…. We caught nothing for this night but for sure we will try again!

Today, we started the day by a migration counting at north beach (Nord strand) with Knud for 3 hours with, the weather was nice but very cold (-1° at 6:30). The species we saw the most was Siskin with more than 700 birds passing. We also get to see beautiful flock of Whooper Swan passing close to the spot and a Great Skua chasing a Gull.

When we went back to the lighthouse, Simon told us that we could open the nets if we wanted so this is what we did. The nets were opened for around 3 hours and we caught two different species of tits (blue and great tit).

During the rest of the afternoon we were working on our computer. We also went up to the lighthouse to enjoy the beautiful view as the weather was pretty good. I didn’t think that it would have as many steps, but it is worth the effort when you get up there!
