Big migratory folks

onsdag 18. marts 2020
af Fanny Rey

Today we started the day with a wet and windy weather, we went to the verdens ende 3 to do the migration counting. We spotted a big group of Oystercatcher (Strandskade) resting at the tip, it was a big group of 48 birds! During the observation we saw some big groups of common Scoter (Sortand) witch is the species we have seen the most today. We had the visit of Jørgen and his dog Igor. Then Leif and Lisbeth came to join us for the last hour.

OYESTERCATCHERBUS

During the afternoon I worked on the computer, I look at the ringing data to make a graphic of the number of Robin (Rødhals) captures between the 1st of April to mid May. We need this information because there is a project with this species with radio telemetry, so we are looking for the best time to equip the bird with a transmitter (don’t worry we will talk about this project with more details later). During this time, Esben bake a nice Pineapple cake!
In the late afternoon we went at the cormorant colony to see if any bird has start to occupy the place, but we haven’t seen any cormorant. There we were two Mute sawn (Knopsvane). On the way back we spot a March Harrier (Rørhøg) who was roasting around the place, first Harrier of the season that we spot !
Tonight Lisbeth and Leif made dinner they cooked a soup which was very yummy! And we get to see a beautiful sunset throw the windows for the apartment.

SUNSET

Tonight, we will try to go at the tip do some night catching, hopefully we will caught something, an Oystercatcher (Strandskade) maybe…!!!!
