A good catching day at Jennes Sø !

onsdag 22. juli 2020
af Amandine Doré

As the weather did look good, we decided to do another CES visit at Jennes Sø. Each day, we gain some minutes of sleep as the sun rises later and later. Viktoria and me opened the nets at 05:00, Mark and Pernille then joined us for the first round.  Meanwhile, Rasmus and Anders his dad went to the “End of the world 1” in Grenen to do some migration counts.  They joined us later on in Jennes Sø for the ringing.

The catching was relatively slow compared to Grenen as usual, however the morning was warm and sunny which was very pleasant. And we still got to ring 14 new birds plus several recaptures, a quiet good number for this CES site ! We caught some rather “uncommon” species for this location : a juvenile Bullfinch (Lille Dompap) as well as a juvenile Greenfinch (Grønirisk). It was my first time ringing these two species, so I was very happy ! We also caught 2 Crested tit (Topmejse) and it was the first time that Pernille saw them in hand ! Overall it was an exciting morning ! And Pernille and me need to go for a jump in the sea now, as it is the tradition here !

We came back home around lunch and went on with our daily office tasks and very needed naps ! I later went out to Kabeltromlen to cut the vegetation under the nets, while Viktoria prepared dinner and Rasmus went out to see a football match.
